Gait analysis is a critical examination of the way in which a person walks. This includes a visual analysis in addition to a pedobarographic analysis on the Emed (Novel) gait platform.
Visual gait analysis will allow the podiatrist to observe head, shoulder, pelvis, hip, knee, ankle, and foot alignment during walking. Your Weil Foot & Ankle podiatrist will be able to observe asymmetries in arm swing as well as the actions of the joints listed above. During visual gait analysis, our Chicago podiatrist may also ask to see you walk on your toes, walk on your heels, walk in tandem, or even run in order to fully accentuate any pathology you may have.
The Emed/Novel gait analysis platform is used to take an electronic measurement of the pressure under a person’s foot during walking or running. This can help our Chicago podiatrist detect areas of increased pressure or altered pressure loading. Use of this information better directs optimal patient treatment.
Emed/Novel gait platform data can also be used by our research team to study how certain foot pathologies affect gait, pressure, and loading, as well as how certain surgical procedures change foot pressures.
