Weil Foot & Ankle Institute is the only podiatry practice that designs and fabricates its own custom-molded foot and ankle braces on site. In fact, we are now introducing a new product called the Bongiovanni brace, which is a hybrid design composed of pressure-sensitive materials that provide stability and shock absorption.
To create a custom-molded brace, one of our board-certified Chicago podiatrists first evaluates the patient’s feet to determine the appropriate device. After a device is chosen and discussed with the patient, an impression is taken to reveal the anatomy of the patient’s feet. Proper casting technique captures the ankle joint at 90 degrees combined with the subtalar and midtarsal joint in a neutral position.
We then create a positive mold. The mold is designed with corrections to help alleviate foot deformities. Corrections are performed by adding plaster to the positive molds to offload any pressure points or pathologic structures.
Next, a pattern of the positive mold is created to fabricate the closure system. Weil Foot & Ankle Institute uses a state-of-the-art interior closure system, which entails an X-static material that is anti-microbial and prevents perspiration.
Stabilizing material is then vacuum pressed to maintain proper anatomic alignment (polypropylene is the most common used material). After custom vacuuming, the material is then hand crafted to the exact specifications of the patient’s needs.
Final assembly entails incorporating all the different layers into one device. A trim line is then created that will ensure a correct shoe fit.
This device is fabricated with a thin polypropylene shell encompassed by a closure system. The closure system is composed of X-static on the interior and genuine calf-skin leather that is both soft and durable. This device comes in two colors, black and beige.
State-of-the-art technology produces this feather-light and durable brace. This device is indicated for drop-foot deformity. This device allows stabilizing forces, preventing foot drop deformity, combined with a thin design to allow an easy shoe fit.
This device is a hybrid that provides a perfect balance between control and shock absorption. These materials actually mold to the contour of the patient’s feet. This device has a revolutionary fabrication process that entails building a brace around a soft polyurethane footbed system. This footbed system is a revolutionary material imported from Nora in Germany that provides advanced and state of the art technologies.
The material is silver impregnated, preventing bacteria growth and assisting with proper foot hygiene. Nora Lunatec Combi is an innovative product development with composite sheets that are “vulcanized” together during the manufacturing process, guaranteeing secure strength with any bonding.
